A face can be quite revealing -- even a poorly executed one. Wisdom, awakening, enlightenment...these are not things one ever knows and yet they can be seen, felt, and experienced.

"I know that I know not" is sometimes called "the Socratic paradox," but there is no evidence that Socrates ever said exactly that. He is recorded as saying, "What I do not know I do not think I know," and there is wisdom. (But you may have read that more than once to see it!)

Nagarjuna says that "wisdom is like a mass of fire -- it cannot be entered from any side. Wisdom is like a clear cool pool -- it can be entered from any side." Wisdom is also like the eye that sees without uttering a word.
